The 100 Malaysia Children's Picture Books To Read and Love was conceived based on the belief that Malaysia has many good picture books for chidren. Talented writers and illustrators and passionate publishers have published these often beautiful books with rich content encompassing the life of a child and his or her surroundings. From early childhood, yes, even when in the womb, it is possible to read to the child, the stories and pictures in picture books help the child to understand the world arround him/her. And no better is this reflected than the books created by local writers and illustrators with characters, stories and environment the child can identify with.
"The stories and pictures in picture books help the child to understand the world arround him/her. And no better is this reflected than the books created by local writers and illustrators with characters, stories and environment the child can identify with."At the Museum of Picture Book Art, we believe the picture book is more than a storybook, though it is that, but that it is also an object of art and culture. Have you ever come across an old, out of print picture books and remember with fondness not only the story but also the images still in your mind and the feelings associated with the book? That is the power of the picture book for the young. Doesn't this make picture books important for the growth and development of the child? In Malaysia, more writers, illustrators and publishers are publishing picture books and it is time our schools use picture books not only to cultivate the reading habit from young, but also to enncourage empathy, knowledge and yes, wisdom in the young.
